Lesson 5 - Exploring Transformation Patterns with Technology

To encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about Exploring Transformation Patterns with Technology, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Goal

Relate number patterns to translation, rotation, and reflection patterns.

Instructions for Use

TransmoGrapher 2 lets your child practice skills at translation and plot basic shapes on the Cartesian coordinate system.

To use TransmoGrapher 2, input the number of units in the text box to translate on the X-axis and on the Y-axis. Click the 'Translate' button. Notice when a translation is redrawn in its new position and orientation, a 'ghost' polygon is drawn in grey in the previous position.

To create a new polygon, input the number of vertices for the new polygon in the text box 'How many vertices?', and click the 'Go' button. Enter the coordinates for X and Y. Click the 'Finished' button. The new polygon will be drawn on the coordinate plane.
